Remember these important storage tips:

  1. Plan how you would like to arrange your storage unit.
  2. Use skids or a couple of boards on the floor to ensure good air flow under and around your items.
  3. Pack documents and financial records in appropriate archive boxes.
  4. Books should be packed flat, keeping in mind not to over pack, as they will be too heavy and awkward to lift.
  5. A cover over furniture and cushions should be wrapped in plastic.
  6. Bed mattresses should be covered and stood on their end.
  7. Refrigerators and freezers should be stored with the door jammed slightly ajar and the unit clean and dry to prevent any moisture or mildew.
  8. Clothing should be stored in wardrobe cartons with mothballs to protect them.
  9. Metal items should be wiped with a couple drops of oil to prevent rusting.
  10. Label the contents of your boxes.
  11. Store items that you will use frequently at the front of the unit to easily access them.
  12. Do not store perishable goods, fuel or solvents that may cause odors and be a fire hazard.
